COLLEGE DECISION MADE
4.25.2005
9:22 PM
I SIR'd, committed to enroll, accepted the offer of admission, whatever floats your boat, today.
I will reveal the college in which I am attending sometime later this week.
It's very hard saying No to all these colleges, especially since they are all very good and I have grown to like each of them in their own unique way.
I'd like to take this time to thank God for all the opportunities He has given me thus far. Thanks Aggies, Anteaters, Banana Slugs, Gauchos, Tritons, Trojans, Wildcats, Illini, and Bears for accepting me your college. Good riddance to Cardinals, Golden Bears, and Bruins
Here's to the class of 2009!
WEEKEND UPDATE
4.24.2005
9:42 PM
I am now 90% positive about which college I will be attending this fall. But until it is 100% sure or Sunday (whichever comes first), the decision will be kept secret between me and my family. If you've talked to me, you should already know. I officially declined UCSC and UCSB today.
YEAH! I got a new phone!!! It's the Sony Ericsson Z500z Camera Phone for Cingular! I love it so much! It's preloaded with some neat Star Wars content too, including 2 free tickets to see Episode III!

Next academic challenge: AP test prep
New distraction: I've recently become obsessed with home audio recording. So, tonight after SOS, I came home, downloaded Mixcraft, and fished out my worship binder. Basically, I did a rough rendition of Draw Me Close to You using an acoustic guitar, bass (using my electric guitar since I don't own a bass), keyboard, and my lovely ear-piercing voice. These programs allow you to record a track, then play the track as you add on to the composition with another instrument. So within an hour I had a song played with four instruments played by one musician. I was going to put it up on my cousin's purevolume, but it sounds pretty pathetic and i'm embarrased
!
For the next song, I'll be using a better microphone (the one I used were the ones you use for voice-conferencing and dictation software), and I will be more prepared with the song (I basically just chose one I could get through so I could see how it turned out). It's pretty cool though.
I just remembered that I still have my $16 bluescreen material under my bed. I guess I'll need to do some video work this summer too!
WU CELEBRATION WEEKEND WRAP-UP
4.19.2005
7:40 PM
Okay, here's a quick review of Celebration Weekend. I encourage all asian juniors to apply to WashU, even if you don't have any reason for going there because this weekend is well worth the cost! This weekend was great!
Apr.14:
Woke up early and drove to airport. Backpack almost didn't make it past security. Sat at gate and watched the sunrise. Flew on plane, stopping at Salt Lake City. Watched one Asian girl struggle to get her suitcase in the overheads (found out later she's headed same place I was). Arrived in St. Louis, went to the WU table, met Dallas and Yan (2 chinese girls), and Bo (one funny chinese guy) from SLC. Went on shuttle to campus and watched another asian from NY solve a Rubik's cube 3 times in 15 minutes. Arrived at Mudd, checked in, went to host's suite. All the dorms there are much bigger than UC. Eventually met Uniz from LA and Jason, my host and a BME student. Went to dinner in the gym where the pres. debates were held. Waited an hour and a half to actually eat, then went to Millenckrodt for ice cream social. met more ppl, then went to bed.
Apr.15:
Woke up early before everyone else woke up. Grabbed food at Bear Den (2 pts of 40 pts WU gave us). Went to WU presentation with another chinese guy (i think his name was ming). Took campus tour, then visited Modern Chinese I class. Didn't understand anything they were speaking in Mandarin, stayed for Japanese II class. Understood some, but man, it's harder than at Valley. Left for engineering tour. Whitaker, the BME building is so nice and new. Visited another class, Biomed. ethics. Studied and hung around dorm then went to Chinese Students Association mtg. Sort've boring...the free Chinese food was really bad. Headed to ACF (Asian Christian Fellowship). ACF was so fun. Met Andrew from SF who goes to P. Jerry's church. Started walking towards library but then met another Chinese girl who was a PNP student at WU. Went to Graham chapel for a gospel choir concert. Very interesting...especially the one asian in the choir. Walked around campus on my own afterwards. really pretty. caught up with Dallas and Bo at Ursa's, also met Andrew from NY and Ong from somewhere. Ended up playing MJ until 1. Won 3 games in a row. Went to bed.
Apr.16:
Woke up, ate huge breakfast (too many points left to spend), walked to Thurtene Carnival, the largest and oldest student-run carni. interesting, sort've bad that the bands were singing all this bad music. Went to FAO and didn't get any $, which pretty much confirmed I wasn't going there. Hung out with Bo and Dallas at Bear Den, bidded farewell to Bo who was leaving to visit UPenn and Cornell, then went on the city tour. Sat next to Unez, my Pakistani roomate. saw the arch..ohh ahh. Afterwards, went back to Thurtene and bought Ted Drewes' and confirmed it didn't fall out of the cup. Came back and watched TV in my suite until the Chancellor's dinner at the fieldhouse. Ate so-so dinner, met two other girls from FL and Amy from Chicago. Walked back thorough AAA "night market", very interesting. Stopped at suite to grab homework, then went to Olin to work on Bio. Left Olin when the lab closed. Walked to Forsythe looking for some ppl and found Ong with some other Asians and one caucasian
. They started asking me weird questions for a while, then they said they were going to a frat party, so I obviously left quickly. Went to Price computer lab to do more homework, but ended up chatting on AIM. Left at 1 AM for my suite, but never slept real well since guys kept coming in and out.
Apr.17:
Woke up at 5 and realized I was an hour early. Packed and watched TV then headed to Bear Mart to try to spend remaining points, but it was closed. Walked back to suite to pick up stuff, then to Mudd to check out. Found out Dallas twisted/sprained ankle walking on grass w/ flip-flops, so since Yan, Dallas, and I were taking the same flight, I carried their luggage and assisted them. Yan lost her ID at the airport and freaked out for a while, but found her driver's license somewhere. Wheeled Dallas through security, where they did a real thorough check for some reason. Yan told the TSA guy that she and I were together
haha. Waited at gate for 1 1/2 hours. Dallas kept wincing in pain refusing pain meds. Yan fell asleep. Got on plane. Saw another guy I met from SLC. Yan and Dallas left me at SLC and I spent the next 2 hours by myself trying to drown out the noises of a screaming baby half the flight with my iPod. Came home and did homework the rest of the evening.
I'll probably add some more pics if they're worth posting. If I miss any details, I'll post them if you're interested. Overall, very good time. I wish it were longer...
On a side note, private colleges are so greedy. I called up USC FAO today and got the first NO for more $. That won't be the last time they hear from me!

LIVE FROM WU ST. LOUIS
4.16.2005

LIVE FROM WU IN ST. LOUIS!!!
WashU is so pretty. Last night I walked around campus on my own and sort've just reflected and prayed. I realized that it was God that brought me here, that allowed me to be accepted to all these colleges. I thought also of Jeremiah 29:11, that despite our anxieties He has a plan for us. Jean from WU ACF (Asian Christian Fellowship) spoke about the floating axehead and the Aramean army last night and encouraged us that even in the small and mundane things (college choices being one of them), God knows our hearts and our desires and wants to help us. We just need to go to Him and pray "Open my eyes that I may see"
So, now for some pictures...

dinner at WU gym the first night. The spaced out guy is one of the many Asians I met. The other spaced out guy on the right staring at him is one of my roomates for the weekend. They're from Salt Lake City and LA, respectively.

Chinese pride i guess. I'm playing MJ at like 1 in the morning with seniors from Seattle and Salt Lake city. Haha, Bo is so funny! I won three in a row before Dallas (USC c/o '09) finally beat me to it.
I'll try to post more tonight because I'm heading off to this huge carnival thing and a bunch of other activities. I've been here at Olin way too long anyways.
BACK EAST
4.13.2005
3:18 PM
I will be in St. Louis, MO, visiting Washington University from Thursday until Sunday!
When I'm not exploring the campus or doing the WashU activites, I will most likely be in Olin library on a computer trying to get all my homework finished
. So, if you see me on, please IM me!
Don't call my cell phone though...I won't pick up unless you're willing to pay for my roaming charges!
I suppose you can text message me, even though I can't text message you back.
I might also try posting a few pictures if I'm able to hook up my card reader.
See you when I get back!
PROVIDENCE
4.12.2005
6:17 PM
Depending on which college I will attend this fall, I will be undoubtedly faced with a financial burden. This presents a question whether or not it is God's will for me to attend this college.
However, I am a firm believer in God's providence. He says in Matthew 7:7:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."
and Philippians 4:19:
"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus."
Psalm 37:4
"Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart."
So, it's really a matter of my heart. Is my college decision-making process focused on me, myself, and I? Am I open to hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit guiding me? I believe if I keep my trust in God, then He will provide.
So, what I've been doing is sort've twofold. Putting my faith in God's providence is the first part. I've been praying and trying to see what God's will is for me through the Bible.
Second, I've been trying to get some Nor Cal biomed companies to help me pay for college. So far, I've sent emails to over 30 biomed companies, with probably another 50 or so left. I am praying that a couple might help me out! I've received emails from a couple saying they can't help me for one reason or another, but that still means I have 20-something left to hear from. If you can hook me up, let me know!
On a good note, I received this very nice laptop/book shoulder bag today free from Microsoft!

UIUC was cool. MBI was nice. NU was really neat. I want to go there but NU won't give me any money. Chicago trip was fun. Went to bed at 2 every night, woke up at 11 pm. Fun. did random stuff. bowling, pool, took lots of pictures, ate lots of food, played guitar randomly, laughed at stupid stuff haha. had a cold all week, ugh.
this coming week is a plane ride to So. Cal to visit USC, UCI, and UCSD, then plane ride the following week to WashU.
I forgot what else I wanted to say, but oh well.
